On Mondays there is fried chicken that is THE BEST fried chicken I have ever had. The cornbread is perfect, and their sides are all around phenomenal, and all for low prices. Great local flavor in both food and clientele. Highly recommended.

The food is always delicious and homemade. All the deserts are also homemade and wonderful. There's a small time feel with very nice wait staff
I hate being the only one to post a sub-par review but I've not been impressed with Dayton Coffee Shop in the past. The food is tasteless (for the most part) and unsalted/unseasoned. There are a few things on the menu that are decent like the tomato casserole or fried okra. Haven't had the fried chicken or chicken n' dumplins, so I can't give my opinion on those (I have heard positive reviews on those menu items). The atmosphere used to be nostalgic with photos of marines/soldiers/etc. from the 1940's on the walls but those are gone now. The owner is fairly monotone and comes across cold and uncaring. Also, all of the employees (even experienced servers from other restaurants) start by chopping lemons apparently which I could get if this was a high end establishment, but it's not. As a whole, I wouldn't recommend. There are much better places in Dayton to eat.
Average food. This place could be great. I have visited this establishment on three different occasions and have found the entree to be Luke warm to cool on all three accounts. I prefer my meal to be hot. Three stars for that reason. They do offer great items and they have daily specials.
